About the Author

Julie works at the North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine (NCSU CVM) supporting clinical research in neurology and nutrition as well as teaching and outreach support. She has worked at NCSU CVM for more than 25 years. She received an associate of applied science degree in animal health technology from University of Minnesota Waseca, bachelor’s degree in science from University of Wisconsin–Madison, and master’s degree in liberal studies from NCSU. She has extensive experience as a licensed veterinary technician, and she was a founding member of the neurology VTS specialty. She particularly enjoys veterinary communication, including public speaking and technical writing, as well as career development, veterinary nutrition, and aspects of veterinary neurology that involve patient rehabilitation and canine epilepsy. She has presented locally, nationally, and internationally and has authored many articles about veterinary nursing. She has been honored as the 2020 American Humane Veterinary Nurse Hero and a Dr. Earl H. Rippie Veterinary Nurse Leadership Scholar.
